170 Series

The 170 Series is Sonic's 7-flute solid carbide end mill for steel, iron, titanium, and nickel alloys. Seven flutes produce a low chip load per tooth at high table feed rates. It's built for finishing passes where the feed has to stay high for cycle time and the surface finish is tight. It isn't a slotting tool.

The 150, 170, and 190 list the same diameters, corner radii, lengths, and coating, size for size; the difference in the specs is flute count. More flutes carry a higher table feed at the same chip load per tooth, and fewer flutes leave more chip room.

Sonic offers the 170 in TiAlSiN for hardened steels, nickel alloys, and titanium alloys. Sonic grinds every shank to h6 for precision holders and leaves a ground finish, not a polished one, so the shank resists slipping. Every tool is engraved with its lot number for traceability.
