970 Series

The 970 Series is Sonic's solid carbide keyseat cutter for keyway slots and Woodruff key features. The head cuts sideways under an edge an end mill can't get beneath: Woodruff key seats, side-milled keyways, and the undercut of a T-slot once its opening is milled. The staggered teeth keep chatter down, and the dished front and rear faces keep the cutter from dragging. Cut widths run 1/64"–1/4", in cutting diameters 1/8"–5/8".

Sonic offers the 970 in AlTiN for steel, titanium alloys, and Inconel, and in TiB2 for aluminum and other non-ferrous materials. Sonic grinds every shank to h6 for precision holders and leaves a ground finish, not a polished one, so the shank resists slipping. Every tool is engraved with its lot number for traceability.
