960 Series

The 960 Series is Sonic's solid carbide 270° spherical cutter for undercut pockets, partial sphere profiles, and retention features requiring reach past the equator. The 270° ball reaches 45° past its equator, so it cuts undercuts a ball end mill can't reach. Applications include spherical retention features and ball-and-socket profiles. Sonic grinds the radius form to 0.0003", and a neck behind the ball adds reach.

Sonic offers the 960 in AlTiN for steel, titanium alloys, and Inconel, and in TiB2 for aluminum and other non-ferrous materials. Sonic grinds every shank to h6 for precision holders and leaves a ground finish, not a polished one, so the shank resists slipping. Every tool is engraved with its lot number for traceability.
