Heavy roughing cuts generate heat. The bigger the tool, the more material you're moving, and the more thermal stress builds up in the cutting zone. This 5" diameter rougher carries TiAlSiN coating specifically for that reason. Aluminum content in the coating acts as a thermal barrier while the silicon adds oxidation resistance at elevated temperatures.
- The chipbreaker geometry along each of the four flutes breaks chips before they can pack or drag heat back into the workpiece.
- That's critical when you're hogging out steel, iron, titanium, or nickel alloys at production rates.
- The 0.1" chamfer strengthens the cutting edge against impact loads that would chip a sharp corner.
