Heavy roughing cuts generate heat. The bigger the diameter, the more heat you're dealing with across the cutting edge. This 5" diameter rougher carries TiAlSiN coating specifically for that thermal load. The aluminum and silicon content handles higher temperatures than standard TiN while maintaining edge hardness through extended cuts in steel, iron, titanium, and nickel alloys.

The chipbreaker geometry along all four flutes does the heavy lifting on chip control.
Each interrupted cutting edge breaks material into manageable fragments before they can pack the flutes or pull heat back into the workpiece.
That 0.1" chamfer strengthens the cutting edge against the impact loads you get when roughing at depth.
This isn't a finishing tool.
