Heavy roughing passes generate heat. The bigger the cutter, the more material per minute, the more thermal stress on the edge. This 12" diameter rougher carries TiAlSiN coating specifically because aluminum content in the coating forms a protective oxide layer at cutting temperatures. It actually gets more heat-resistant as it heats up.

  • The 4-flute configuration balances chip evacuation with feed rates on large-diameter cuts.
  • Chipbreaker geometry along each edge fractures chips before they can wrap or pack in the flutes.
  • The 0.2" chamfer takes the stress concentration off the corner where edge failure typically starts on heavy interrupted cuts.
  • Steel, iron, titanium, and nickel alloys.
  • This isn't a finishing tool.
  • It's for moving metal when cycle time matters more than surface finish.
  • Run the rougher hard, then switch to your finisher.
