Tool 970i1204B
Standard end mills don't cut side slots below a shoulder. The 970 Series does.
- A solid carbide keyseat cutter for keyways, side slots, and profile features where reach into the part geometry is the constraint.
- Six flutes balance surface finish with chip evacuation in the 0.0625" cut width.
- More flutes would pack chips, fewer would leave tool marks in steel applications.
- The 0.0938" neck diameter is the stability constraint here, not the 0.1875" cutting diameter.
- Conservative radial engagement keeps deflection in check when cutting below shoulders or into pockets where spindle access is limited.
- AlTiN coating extends tool life in steel and iron by managing heat buildup during interrupted cuts.
- The aluminum content forms a protective oxide layer that maintains edge sharpness through thermal cycling.
