970 Series

Tool 970i2406B

The 970i2406B is a 3/8" keyseat cutter from the 970 Series, for keyways and woodruff key slots in steel. This version cuts a 0.0938" (3/32") wide slot and has 8 flutes.

The head cuts a slot below the surface that a standard end mill can't reach, while the narrower neck passes through the opening above it.
The staggered cut keeps chatter down, and the dished front and rear faces keep the cutter from dragging.
Behind the head, the neck steps down to 0.1875" for longer reach.
You clamp a 3/8" shank that Sonic grinds to h6 for precision tool holders and leaves unpolished to help it resist slipping.
The AlTiN coating handles high temperatures and cuts down wear.
For aluminum, the 970i2406C is the same tool in TiB2.
