940 Series

Tool 941i1604B

The 941i1604B is a 60° engraver on a 1/4" shank, from the 940 Series, for part marking and fine line engraving in steel. It has a 0.004" tip, and the 60° is the included angle across both flanks.

The small tip cuts fine lines and tight inside corners that a larger end mill can't, like serial numbers and logos.
Line width is the 0.004" tip plus about 0.012" for every 0.010" of depth, since the 60° flanks open as you go deeper.
Sonic grinds the single flute with a flat-edged helical design that clears chips and keeps burrs down.
For the same line width, a 60° engraver cuts about 1.7x as deep as a 90°.
The 942i1604B is the 90° version, with the same shank and tip.
You clamp a 1/4" shank that Sonic grinds to h6 for precision tool holders and leaves unpolished to help it resist slipping.
The AlTiN coating handles high temperatures and cuts down wear.
For aluminum, the 941i1604C is the same tool in TiB2.
